Shala Ball

I am a San Francisco–based artist exploring the interplay of spontaneity and discipline through abstraction. Working across canvas and paper, I use materials ranging from richly built acrylic surfaces to fluid inks on Yupo and collage, creating layered compositions that balance intuition with deliberate mark-making.

Each piece unfolds over time—guided, disrupted, and reworked—until a sense of equilibrium emerges, whether in the expansive energy of larger works or the quiet intimacy of smaller mixed-media pieces.

Inspired by the natural world, urban environments, and the joy of everyday life, my practice invites a moment of pause—a closer look, a personal connection, a discovery of meaning in the unexpected.

My work is held in private collections in San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area.
